Carried Away with Summer Wedding Tips!

Updated: Jun 27

Hello Belles and Beaus. I’ve heard this question asked and brought up in appointments lately. Summer weddings can be hot. What’s the best things to wear for summer weddings? So today let’s get Carried Away with Summer Wedding Tips!

Managing the heat and potential sweat on your wedding day, especially during the summer, is crucial for both comfort and maintaining your desired look. Regardless of what you’re wearing you will at some point find yourself hot. If not from the heat of the season, then from all the dancing at the reception. Here are some tips to help minimize sweating and ensure you stay cool:

1. Choose Breathable Fabrics: Opt for lightweight, breathable fabrics such as tulle and chiffon. These fabrics allow air to circulate and can help keep you cool. Some of our gowns even include a cool touch lining which will keep you from being as hot. Flowy fabrics allow you to catch a breeze here and there.

2. Consider Sleeve Styles: If you prefer sleeves but are concerned about overheating, consider styles like cap sleeves, flutter sleeves, off the shoulder, or illusion sleeves, which provide coverage without being too restrictive or adding too much warmth. Sleeves do not tend to provide warmth, they will however hold in your body heat.

3. Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated. This will help regulate your body temperature and prevent excessive sweating. Alcohol tends to make us hotter, so maybe limit consumption during the day and save it for the reception.

4. Use Antiperspirant: Apply a clinical-strength antiperspirant to areas where you're most likely to sweat, such as your underarms and thighs. This will help out a ton! I always recommend wearing some type of shorts underneath your gown to prevent chaffing but antiperspirant works just as well!

5. Choose Light Colors: Light-colored clothing reflects sunlight, whereas dark colors absorb it, so opting for lighter shades can help keep you cooler. I know I have tons of black dress brides, but those gowns will be hotter than a lighter color.

6. Stay Cool During Prep: While getting ready, keep the room temperature comfortable and use fans or air conditioning to help regulate the temperature. Starting the day out hot is the worst way to kick off your wedding! Make sure you stay indoors as much as possible! Have a blast with your girls and enjoy the cool!

7. Blotting Papers: Keep blotting papers or powder on hand to quickly absorb any excess sweat and keep your skin looking matte.

8. Consider a Backup Plan: If you're worried about the heat, have a backup plan in case temperatures soar unexpectedly. This could include providing fans or portable air conditioners for outdoor venues, or even moving the ceremony or reception indoors if necessary. Soaring heat can make for a miserable affair, especially here in the South with our rampant humidity!

9. Time Your Photos Wisely: Schedule outdoor photoshoots during cooler times of the day, such as early morning or late afternoon, to avoid the peak heat of midday. Plus, those golden hour pictures are to die for!!

10. Stay in the Shade: When outdoors, try to stay in shaded areas as much as possible to avoid direct exposure to the sun. Try and stay in a climate controlled environment until time to say those I Do’s!

11. Ceremony Time: When having an outdoor wedding in the Summer keep in mind when sunset is and try to plan for the ceremony to be closer to that time. Another option is to have nighttime weddings. Some of the most beautiful weddings happen at night. You can use candles and twinkle lights to set the romantic vibe for you guests.

12. Remember Your Guests: Maybe at each seat offer a fan with your ceremony details. Offer iced water or lemonade when the arrive to the ceremony. They’ll be in their seats before you’re outside and even after. That small gesture will be very much appreciated by your guests.
